The blades on this pair of scissors are slightly out of line.
Inspired by the Charles X style, this pair of embroidery scissors represents a Savoie cross (East of France). The handles are made from imitation mother of pearl, a material which was often used in the past for delicate sewing items.
Size: 11.8cm.
These scissors, including the pompom, are made entirely in France. It should be pointed out that it takes a dozen qualified people to make each pair.
Presented in a Sajou box. A label on the inside cover explains the manufacturing process.
An important detail enables us to judge the quality of a pair of scissors; the pairing marks - the number which you can see on the interior of each of the blades( you will notice the number "38" on the photos presented here). This number is different on each pair of scissors and indicates that both parts have been paired together from the first assemblage to make a perfect match. After the first fitting, the scissors are taken apart and each shear undergoes the different processing operations before being reassembled and finished.
In the 19th century such scissors would need the craftsmanship of a cutler for the steel blades and an ornamental turner for the mother of pearl work. Nowadays the distribution of the work is quite similar: the blades are still made by a master cutler, and the handles are created in our own ateliers. The difference with the vintage models is that ours are more solid and extremely light, making them a joy to use.
