Introduction to Tonkin Embroidery Floss

The Tonkin embroidery floss is marketed under the name of Toulemonde. This thread stands out for its quality and adaptability to various embroidery projects.

History of Ets Toulemonde

Ets Toulemonde is one of the last remaining French manufacturers of sewing threads. Founded in 1903 by Emile Barrois in the historical textile region in the north of France, the company was passed on to Joseph Toulemonde Barrois and his brother-in-law, Christophe Barrois, just before the First World War.

Evolution and Modernisation Over Generations

In the 1960s, the third generation, led by Joseph and Didier Toulemonde, brought fresh energy to the company, diversifying into many innovative sectors of the thread industry. Despite the downturn in the textile industry in the 1980s, Bruno Toulemonde, representing the fourth generation, modernised and diversified the company, focusing on quality and expertise. Ets Toulemonde supplies many textile industries, professional embroiderers, and workshops working for prestigious haute couture houses.

Acquisition of Maison Vrau and New Brands

In 2007, Ets Toulemonde entered a new chapter by acquiring Maison Vrau, the owner of the Fil Au Chinois, Laine Saint-Pierre, and Découvit brands, strengthening their presence in the sewing thread market.
