Laine Saint-Pierre – High-quality embroidery and darning wool
Laine Saint-Pierre is ideal for cross stitch, traditional embroidery, and darning. This 50% wool, 50% polyamide thread is durable, washable, and available on cards, in assortments, and on cones.
The History of Laine Saint-Pierre
Laine Saint-Pierre can be used for counted cross stitch and traditional embroidery alike. It was originally a darning wool for sweaters and socks, and it has retained this use, which is becoming popular again, a great way to give your clothes a second life.
You can discover the history behind this brand in Madame Sajou's Diary.
Using Laine Saint-Pierre for Embroidery and Darning
Laine Saint-Pierre gives a matt finish that is slightly more rustic than the shinier effect of our Retors du Nord embroidery floss.
Laine Saint-Pierre is presented in 4 separable strands. For general embroidery, you will only need to use two strands, as in our series of pattern charts dedicated to the Bayeux Tapestry. However, for petit point canvas work, you will use 4, or even 6 strands.
Below, two videos show you how to repair a small hole in a sweater in the first one, while the second shows you how to do visible mending with Laine Saint-Pierre, a popular technique that turns damaged clothing into works of art and gives them a second life:
Watch these videos to learn how to use Laine Saint-Pierre for your darning projects:
You can find more details in the sewing section of our blog Madame Sajou's Diary.
The different presentations of Laine Saint-Pierre
Laine Saint-Pierre is available on 10 metre cards, in assortment boxes, and on cones. It is made up of 50% wool and 50% polyamide, making it solid and easy to clean.
