Tacking thread, as the name suggests, is used to temporarily hold together different pieces of fabric before sewing them permanently, allowing for precise adjustments.
It traditionally comes in various colours, so that, whatever the colour of the fabric, the thread stands out against it, making it easier to remove afterwards.
