One morning in October 2014, as usual I arrived early at the office. I switched on my computer and, among the numerous mails that had arrived during the night, was one signed by the head of licences in Japan: “we are very impressed by Sajou’s creativity and would like to know if we could work together”.
For a few seconds I thought it was a joke. And then I realised that the proposal was serious. After that, things moved very fast: a large number of mails and images were sent over a short period. The communication was easy, direct and open. The more things progressed, the more emotional I became that a company such as Uniqlo would be interested in my humble creations.
The collection was programmed for distribution at the same time as our 10th anniversary – a wonderful present!.
My emotion was greater when I received the first drafts on paper: the project was becoming something concrete. And what can I say about the day when the delivery man dropped off a parcel containing all the prototypes… I could hardly believe it!
One of the first draft : the famous pattern chart representing
our Private Collection embroidery scissors.
A few weeks later the definitive models arrived. I could think of nobody better to act as models than the girls who work alongside me: their devotion over the years deserved that at the very least.
