Retors du Nord: the Maison Sajou embroidery thread made in France

Why the name Retors du Nord?

Retors du Nord is Sajou’s embroidery floss made in France. Launching a new brand of embroidery floss in 2009 was a real challenge, at a time when people were abandoning local brands for cheaper imported products. Choosing a name for our embroidery floss was a delicate affair. The name had to reflect the product without being too complicated. As usual in this type of case, I plunged into my collection of vintage haberdashery and came up with the name "retors". In French, this is a synonym of "mouliné", a term already used by DMC, meaning twisted. As it is made in the region known as "Nord", the name became an evidence.

100% cotton embroidery thread on cards

100% cotton Retors du Nord is made of 4 separable strands. It is slightly finer than other brands with a delightful sheen which slides with ease through your embroidery fabric. It has a lustrous appearance, quite close to silk.
In most cases, and notably for counted cross stitch, you only need two strands.

Our embroidery floss Retors du Nord is presented on cards which makes it a pleasure to use and much easier to store. The other benefit: the end of jumbled unusable balls of thread.

For ecological reasons, our Retors du Nord embroidery floss is not colourfast. To make a thread colourfast involves using highly polluting treatments, which are in our opinion, totally unjustified for embroidery purposes. However, it can be washed up to 40° - just be careful never to use boiling water or bleach.

The different presentations of Retors du Nord embroidery thread

Retors du Nord is available in 96 colours and presented on 20 metre cards, sold individually or in assortments of 12 cards presented in a gorgeous box. There is also a spectacular box containing the complete collection of 96 cards. And for much larger projects, this thread is also available on 1000 metre cones.
Also available a printed colour chart and a cross stitch kit to embroider the whole range in the spirit of yesteryear.
