Introduction to cross stitch on Aida fabric

- Categories : Projects

Basic principle of cross stitch embroidery:

Fold the fabric in four to find the centre. Mark the fold with your fingernail.
Each square on the pattern chart corresponds to one cross.
Our Retors du Nord embroidery floss is comprised of four strands, you will only need two.
Cut about 30cm of thread and separate two strands. Straigten the threads and thread your needle.
There is no need to make a knot with cross stitch. Start off by pricking the needle through the front of the fabric, a bit above the stitches you will make. Hold the end of the thread in place with your thumb. The crosses must all go in the same direction, the under stitch from right to left and the upper stitch from left to right.
When you reach the end of your thread, pass the remaining thread under the stitches on the back and cut off the excess.
