Geometric embroidery on fabric

Geometric embroidery on fabric

- Categories : Embroidery

The idea is to use the motif to its best advantage: it becomes a reference point for simple stitches and transform the visual aspect of the fabric.
Here is an example embroidered on our noughts and crosses fabric, the coordinate N°1 from our Toile de Jouy Travaux de la Manufacture in black.

You will need:
- A swatch of black Travaux de la Manufacture coordinate 1,
- Two cards of Retors du Nord embroidery floss – we used 2032 and 2196,
- A round tipped embroidery needle,
- A wooden embroidery hoop, 12 or 15cm,
- A pair of scissors.

Once you have finished the embroidery, you can make it into a cushion, as we have done. For the back of each of our cushions, we switched the fabrics: the noughts and crosses for the checkered cushion and vice-versa (see our video with the coordinate 1 fabric from our Travaux de la Manufacture collection).
But why not make a tote bag, a pouch or anything else that takes your fancy? Please do send us a photo of your finished project and we will publish it here. These models were made in collaboration with Catherine Rouchié, who is an embroidery teacher, as well as working at our corner at Le Bon Marché several days per week.
