Cross stitch kit - Aelfgyva and Harold - Museums and Heritage Collection
This cross stitch complete kit comes from the large pattern chart created by Frédérique Crestin-Billet evoking the Bayeux Tapestry. One is Aelfgyva, the only woman on the whole Tapestry! I could not miss out on this scene, even though it is one of the most enigmatic. Some think it could be William’s daughter, betrothed to Harold. The cleric in question inflicts a slap on her cheek lest she should forget the importance of her engagement, in the same manner that knights were dubbed. It is possible that the tower on the right evokes the interior of the Rouen Château. The other one is Harold: King Edward has died. Despite the sermon made to Duke William and against the will of the late king, Harold claims the throne. The scene is shown here with, on the left, two characters in ceremonial gowns giving Harold the royal symbols in the presence of Archbishop Stigant. This scene is not on our main Bayeux embroidery pattern. However, it is the scene I used to determine which colours of Laine Saint-Pierre should be used.
Size of each motif : 88 points 73 points. If sewn on 12 count embroidery linen: 15cm x 12,5cm.
This kit contains:
- full-colour pattern charts printed on a large 60cm x 29cm sheet of paper;
