THE CHATEAU AND GARDENS OF VAUX-LE-VICOMTE
The gardens at Vaux-le-Vicomte are closely linked to André Le Nôtre, the celebrated architect and gardener who transformed the French garden into a work of art. The majestic perspective from the chateau organizes the gardens in an optical illusion, typical of French gardens. From the central axis, the eye discovers the flower beds, the fountains and topiaries which will delight the visitors as they stroll around this marvel. At the end of the garden the canal, a monumental piece of water judiciously concealed to create a striking theatrical effect.
