Workshop storage box. Decorated with a "indienne" motif paper, a re-edition of a fabric once printed at the Jouy Oberkampf Manufactory.
This motif has been named Coquecigrues, a cotton fabric printed around 1790-1800. The coquecigrue is a fantasy animal made up of no less than a cockeral, a crane and a stork…
The interior is covered with the same paper as the exterior.
Format: length - 10.5cm, width – 8cm, height: 5.5cm.
People automatically think about the printed red characters when evoking Toile de Jouy. However, the production at the manufactory was infinitely richer than that: the floral and geometric motifs printed at Jouy are estimated at over 30 000, whereas the character prints only number around 200 motifs.
