Polyester thread for leatherwork Fil Au Chinois

Thread for leather sewing: polycotton, polyester core coated with cotton

The Special Maroquinerie thread from Fil Au Chinois is a sewing thread made of high-strength polyester that, during the spinning process, is coated with cotton fibre. It is then assembled and twisted into multiple strands (in French, professionally referred to as "bouts"). After this, the thread is waxed, which means it is passed through a starch bath with added beeswax. It then undergoes brushing with horsehair and stretching. These processes produce a smooth and strong thread that is both rigid and durable.
The polycotton sewing thread is available in four thicknesses:
  • The NM 50/3 has a diametre of 0.36 mm and is available in small and large cones,
  • The NM 28/2 has a diametre of 0.38 mm and is available in small and large cones,
  • The NM 28/3 has a diametre of 0.45 mm and is available in small and large cones,
  • The NM 28/4 has a diametre of 0.52 mm and is also available in small and large cones.
