Tonkin is a unique gimped yarn, composed of a core thread, in this case a gold Lurex strand, surrounded by a covering of bulk polyester. This textured polyester gives the thread a slightly puffy appearance, adding both volume and gloss to your embroidery projects.

Gimped yarns like Tonkin are produced using specialised machines equipped with hollow spindles, through which the core thread is passed and wrapped by the outer layer. This process ensures excellent durability and prevents fraying, even during intricate embroidery work.

Presented on 10-metre cards, sold individually, this thread is also available in two themed assortments.
