Laine Saint-Pierre - darning and embroidery wool
Laine Saint-Pierre, the renowned wool for embroidery and darning
Initially, the illustrious Laine Saint-Pierre darning wool was from Lyon. It was bought out by Maison Vrau in Lille in 1971. It belongs now to Ets Toulemonde, also owners of the French Fil Au Chinois brand. The 1847 Collection marks a revival for this product: the cards and packaging were re-designed by Frédérique Crestin-Billet with their original look. The name is a reference to the year the brand Fil Au Chinois was registered. New colours were dyed to offer a permanent range, notably for use in traditional embroidery and cross stitch.
On our blog, Madame Sajou’s Diary, you can discover the history of Laine Saint-Pierre and the many imitations it inspired. Copied often, never equalled!
You will also find articles and videos showing how to use Laine Saint-Pierre: Repairing a small hole in a sweater, Repairing a hole with visible mending, and How to sew elbow patches on a sweater. These techniques are ideal with Laine Saint-Pierre.
Also, don’t miss the book by Frédérique Crestin-Billet, Mercerie Au Rayon des Fils, which extensively covers the history of thread brands for sewing, embroidery, knitting yarns, and other delights for haberdashery enthusiasts.
