Sewing Club Collection

Welcome to our Sewing Club Collection!

This charming illustration captures a delightful scene where elegantly dressed ladies select thread colours from a box of thread cards. The background suggests they are in a sewing workshop, with mannequins visible in the distance. This image originally appeared on a large cardboard box designed for haberdasheries, which once held linen thread cards. At a time when sewing machines were not yet commonplace, most commercial threads were made of linen. It was only with the rise of sewing machines in the 1930s that spools became widely available.
